  • Desperately Need A Good “How To Lose Weight Diet?”

    Posted on January 29th, 2010 joediv No comments

    Do you have to shed a few pounds? Now you are looking for a good “How To Lose Weight Diet.” There are so many diets in the market that it is very difficult to decide on one. It is also important to be careful as some of them are really bad. On the other hand there are many good ones out there and the right one for you is there, you only have to find it.

    Deciding on the right diet for you will depend on:

    • How much weight you need to lose
    • Your general health
    • Your personality
    • Your likes and dislikes
    • How often you like to eat
    • Your fitness levels

    1. How much weight you need to lose:

    If you really need to lose a lot of weight, you will need a “how to lose weight diet” that you can keep up for a long time. The diet must be healthy, include all the nutrition your body needs and the food cannot be too little or you will not be able to keep it up for the time needed to lose a lot of weight.

    2. Your general health:

    It is always good to see a doctor before you go on a diet. Your doctor will be able to tell you if it will be safe for you. You have to keep in mind that certain health conditions may make certain diets unsafe for you. diabetics for instance have very specific needs and must make sure the diet is correct before they embark on it.

    3. Your personality:

    Now, you are wondering what your personality has to do with weight loss. Actually a lot! You know how you react to pressure, how you act in certain circumstances etc. All this will play a role in the diet you have to choose. If you are able to stick to a very strict routine a diet that is very set will do for you. Other people may not be able to do that and will have to have a diet that is more flexible. As an example, on the Atkins Diet, cheating will make you gain weight, quite a lot, whilst on a calorie controlled diet, a cheat will only set you back a little for the one day and the next you can just carry on losing weight.

    4. Your likes and dislikes:

    This, I think, is easy to understand. You have to make sure that the food you will have to eat on the diet is not something you hate. If you cannot stand certain kinds of food, trying an eating plan that has a lot of it in it, is obviously not going to work.

    5. How often you like to eat:

    It is no use to try and follow a diet that forces you to eat when you are not hungry and forbids you to eat at the times you are on your hungriest. Here you have to be realistic. Even though eating breakfast is always recommended, for some it is impossible and it only makes them even hungrier the rest of the day. For some eating their main meal in the middle of the day is best and some has to have it in the evening. (I’m one of those; I’m at my hungriest in the evening!)

    6. Your fitness levels also plays a role in the right “how to lose weight diet” for you:

    How fit you are, how much exercise you are able to do, obviously play a role. If you are not fit at all a diet that insists on you exercising to lose weight is not going to work. You will first have to lose some weight, do some very moderate exercise until you are fitter and only then can serious exercise become part of your weight loss routine. On the other hand, if you already do a lot of exercise, you will need a diet that supplies you with the necessary energy to do it.

    So you see, there is a whole lot more involved in choosing a “how to lose weight diet” than “eenie, meenie, mynie, mow!”

  • The Complete Guide To Good Food For A Diet

    Posted on November 4th, 2009 joediv No comments

    So many people want to know what is good food for a diet. When I say: “the complete guide to good food for a diet” most will probably think that I am taking a fat change here! It will surprise you though, to find that “good food for a diet” is not that difficult. Most common everyday foods are excellent weight loss food.

    1. What is the secret then?

    If you want to lose weight, you have to follow a well balanced diet combined with moderate exercise. This will ensure long term healthy weight loss.

    2. But, I promised you a guide, so here it is:

    Pig our on veggies, yes you are reading this right, pig out on veggies. Most vegetables are very low in calories and packed with nutrition. There are some though, that are better for fat loss than others.

    * Green vegetables:

    Most green vegetables are excellent for weight loss. Take note though, that peas are very high in carbs and must rather be considered a carbohydrate than a green vegetable. You also have to take care that you do not add calories with your cooking methods; for instance, spinach can be considered a free vegetable, but as soon as you make creamed spinach it becomes very high in calories and are completely unsuitable.

    * Yellow vegetables:

    Here you can go overboard. Carrots are a very good choice and even pumpkin, if you do not add anything can taste very good and be very satisfying.

    * Salads:

    Especially in summer, when salads really taste good, eat as much salad as possible. Here, once again, beware of adding calories. Most salad dressings simply crawl with calories. Make your own with fresh ingredients so that you can control what goes into it.

    * Meat:

    When it comes to meat, good food for a diet is mainly chicken and fish. Low fat beef and pork can be eaten in smaller quantities. As far as the chicken goes, try and stick to the breast as it contains the smallest amount of fat, it is almost fat free. Once again, do not add calories with your cooking methods, grill or steam are the best.

    * Legumes:

    Legumes are excellent food for a diet. They are low fat, contains lots of fiber to make you feel satisfied and combined with small amounts of carbs they supply your body with complete proteins to use as building blocks.

    * Carbohydrates:

    Do not cut out carbs completely. Your body needs them to burn for energy. You have to cut down though and eat no more than five small portions a day. Keep to whole grains and low fat options. Remember that you can include rice, potatoes and peas here.

    * Dairy products:

    Here you have to be careful. Only eat low fat or fat free dairy products and beware of hard cheeses as they normally are very high in fat and crawls with calories! A good choice as food for a diet is fat free, unflavored, unsweetened yoghurt. Use it in your cooking and as salad dressings.

    * Fat:

    Normally fat can not be considered as food for a diet. Your body does need some fat, though, to be able to use the fat soluble vitamins so you need to eat about three teaspoons of fat or oil a day.

    So, there you have your complete guide to food for a diet! I hope it will help you in your weight loss efforts.

  • To Maintain good Oral Health, Prevent Heart Disease, Stroke, Diabetes, and Healthier Teeth

    Posted on September 2nd, 2009 joediv No comments

    Studies show that oral hygiene plays a role in overall health. Researchers have found that people who have periodontal disease have in increased risk of stroke, heart attack, and type II diabetes. The same harmful bacteria found in the mouth have been found in arterial plaques that cause heart disease. Saving your teeth can also save your life!

    In conjunction with the in-office treatment you will receive, there are several things you can do at home to prevent and maintain your periodontal condition.

    Coenzyme Q10, also known as CoQ10, is an antioxidant recommended by many dentists for the prevention and treatment of periodontal disease. CoQ10 is found in every cell of your body, particularly in the heart and oral tissues.

    Researchers found that people with periodontal disease had a deficiency of this essential nutrient. It is recommended that you take at least 30mg two times per day. This is not a magic pill, you still need to brush, floss, and see your dental hygienist at least twice per year. Every day, bacteria that naturally builds up in the oral cavity, along with food particles, form a sticky, clear film on your teeth. This film is called plaque, and it forms above the gumline and below the gumline on the root surface. Plaque forms regardless of whether you eat or not.

    Plaque that is not removed by brushing and flossing. It becomes hard and is unable to be removed with a toothbrush or floss. This hard plaques is called tartar. These tartar deposits produce toxins from the bacteria which cause inflammation. Inflammation of the gums is called gingivitis, and it is reversible. The inflammation below the gumline breaks down the bone and other supporting structures. This breakdown causes a space to form between the tooth and the gum, called a pocket. The breakdown of the bone and pocket formation is called periodontitis, and it is not reversible.

    It is recommended that you have a dental phophylaxis or “cleaning” at least two times a year. Unfortunately, even with regular visits gingivitis and periodontitis still occur. In fact, it is estimated that 80% of adults have some severity of bone loss.

    Another at-home option is to use a waterpik, which is an oral irrigator. The waterpik uses a high-powered, pulsating stream of water to gently clean around the gumline. There is also an attachment called a pik pocket, which is designed to clean periodontal pockets. In clinical studies the waterpik was 93% more effective than floss.

    Doing one or both of these easy oral healthcare practices could save your teeth and your life.

  • Great Looking Skin in Your 40′s Takes a Good Skin Care Program in Your 20′s

    Posted on August 2nd, 2009 joediv No comments

    It is inevitable that we all age; skin will lose elasticity and slowly the signs of aging will become apparent with brown spots, and fine lines and wrinkles. However, it is important to note that how you treat your skin in your twenties will forever be apparent later in life. Beginning a preventive maintenance skin care program in your twenties will help maintain a youthful glow well into your 40′s.

    Our skin ages in two ways: the accumulated physical changes normally associated with the passage of time (chronological aging) and through the accumulated damage caused by exposure to environmental pollutants and UV radiation (accelerated aging). Both of these types of aging can be slowed down with proper skin care and protection.

    Your twenties could be considered the age of prevention, when most skin care issues start with lack of care. Forgetting to wash your face before bed can lead to clogged pores, whiteheads and blackheads. Squinting in the sun and not using moisturizers can contribute to fine dry lines around the eyes. Too little sleep, too much alcohol and smoking can dull the complexion. Serious sunburn can now set the stage for age spots, and worse yet set the stage for some form of skin cancer including melanoma

    The first step in developing the right skin care program to ward off premature aging is to determine your skin type. Is your skin on the dry side, oily or a combination of both – knowing your skin type will ensure that you have selected the most beneficial skin care products. If you are not sure how to determine your skin type read my article “How to Determine Your Skin Type”.

    Your beauty regimen should consist of daily cleansing, toning and moisturizing. No matter what skin type you have (dry, oily, or combination) these steps are the key to great skin. For those with dry skin, avoid lathering type cleansers, and toners that are alcohol based. Your moisturizer should be rich in emollients. For those with oily skin, do not over dry the skin with to harsh of skin care products, this only leads the skin to produce more oil to combat that “dry” skin feeling.

    Exfoliates and Masks:
    A good exfoliate stimulates skin cells, cleans pores and sloughs off dead skin. No matter what skin type, an exfoliate is recommended, and depending on your skin type and the type of exfoliate, they should be used as needed. Additionally, facial masks do wonder to hydrate and nourish the skin.

    Sunscreen – Although we hear it over and over again, don’t leave home without your sunscreen on. Sunscreen will protect your skin from those age spots that will eventually show up later in life or worse yet development of some form of skin cancer.

    On a personal note, look for products that contain natural ingredients such as green tea, jojoba oil, or aloe vera just to name a few. Better yet consider making your own toners, masks, and exfoliates. By taking care of your skin in your twenties you will be rewarded in your 40′s by less wrinkles, age spots, and an overall beautiful complexion.

  • Way to Have a Good Hair Day For Men

    Posted on June 25th, 2009 joediv No comments

    You may be of classic type or may be a dude of trendiest and latest fashion. Hairstyles and fashions of hair cut and decor are definitely a part of your personal fashion sense and styling sense. It can not be complete without that thing. For any kind of styling and setting a trend you have to be sure that your hair texture and hair quality is supporting the fact. For that you have to have a good and healthy hair. It is essential. Good and healthy hair can only be got by a through yet simple hair care routine. It is very essential to keep your manly locks looking great. Below there are complete hair care tips on the washing, toning, conditioning, and grooming and styling procedure. This is only for men’s hair.

    First step of washing is shampooing- choose a good quality aromatic shampoo that can attract and please others. It must have a soothing and smooth after effect. The most important thing is the pH balance of your shampoo. It determines the nature of your shampoo that is for dry hair or for oily hair etc. For clean and healthy hair flavor of that is not important but the pH balance is crucial. It must be examined. Shampoo your hair and rinse it carefully with cold water. Complete rinsing is very important as it cleanse the hair completely. No residual. Using shampoo twice is for good of your hair. Somebody thinks that it is not necessary to use it twice. It is not a ploy of the shampoo companies but it is needful. The first time you are applying it on your hair the shampoo then makes your scalp ready for wash and it starts the process. But the second one completes the job. It cleans your hair and scalp by loosening up all the cool products and make over your hair into a great looking hair.

    Then comes toning of your hair shafts. Massage your hair and scalp while shampooing. With the finger balls massage the scalp gently. It is called ‘spider doing push-ups’ fashion. It is vital and critical in your hair care routine. It helps to loosening the sebaceous glands of your hair scalp and secrets the sebum, which is a natural form of essential fatty acids. It feels good and soothing and condition your hair and tone up your hair. There are lots of ways of massaging for different types of hair. For long hair circular massaging can be avoidable. If you want to avoid a conditioner then this process is must as it releases the oils from your hair. Do not rub your hair to dry but towel dry it and avoid the tangles.

    Now comes conditioning. If your one is dry and coarse then use a conditioner or a moisturizing creme for men’s hair. You can opt for a herbal one. Chemical commercial conditioners are also available I the market. For herbal choice you can make the stuff a your own home. It is safe and natural.
