  • The Benefits of Massage Therapy

Posted on October 11th, 2009 joediv No comments

Are you feeling guilty about pampering yourself with a massage?  Does it seem too self-indulgent?  Actually, you should certainly not feel guilty by answering “Yes” because by treating yourself to a regular massage you will reap the rewards of many profound health benefits it generates in our lives.  Massage can help you maintain physical, mental and emotional well being, especially when it is part of your wellness routine.

Massage therapy has been used as a therapeutic measure for generations, and across cultures around the world.   Although different types of massage techniques are designed to target specific areas, dysfunctions, and promote natural healing processes, there are some distinctive benefits that can be received from regular massage.  Physical benefits range from improved circulation, lower stress levels, and increased flexibility in tense muscles.  Mental benefits include: a calm mind, increased awareness, better focus and concentration, and increased alertness.

Sometimes our days seem to be so filled with work and other commitments that it can be hard to make space for our most important relationship.  Massage gives you an opportunity to spend some quiet time with your partner, without the TV, radio or other distractions.

Being able to relax and enjoy a good night’s sleep is one of nature’s best stress cures.  While we are under stress we need more sleep, but this is when we are most likely to experience sleep problems.  Pursuits such as singing or painting, enjoying a long, warm aromatic bath, or eating delicious food, are all good ways of switching off in the evening.  Massage is also excellent for relaxing body and mind.  During a massage the brain waves can slow down to such an extent that you may enter a very deep state of relaxation , akin to meditation, in which mind, body and soul are recharged.

Our diet can either help or hinder our ability to cope with stress.  Stimulants such as caffeine, alcohol and smoking deplete our nutritional store and contribute to stress levels.  Sugary snacks and most processed foods stimulate the release of the stress hormone cortisol, leading to swings in blood sugar and energy levels.  Opt instead for “slow release” energy found in whole foods – fresh fruits, vegetables, pulses and grains, seeds and nuts.  Substitute herbal teas for tea and coffee and drink plenty of water to keep the body hydrated.

Massage therapy is a truly powerful ally to have in your life!

  • Benefits of Natural Skin Care

We have heard this many times, drinks lots of water and eat plenty of fruit and vegetables to maintain good health. While this is great for keeping health from the inside/out, what about from the outside/in of our bodies?

The skin is the largest organ of the body and takes up 15 – 20% of your actual total body weight. It literally holds us together. One of the most amazing qualities of the skin is its elasticity. But, as we grow older the skin starts to loose its elasticity. It is vitally important we look after our skin through out the changes in life to maintain the skins natural elasticity. Unfortunately people give skin little consideration.

Most skin care products that are sold in stores contain an array of harsh chemicals such as propylene glycol, sodium lauryl sulfates and petro-chemicals just to name a few. The average women applies more than 200 chemicals on her skin in one day and about 60% of these chemicals are absorbed into the bloodstream. What these chemicals do is strip away the natural oils from the skin leaving your skin more vulnerable to skin damage.

If you are serious about maintaining healthy younger looking skin, try natural skin care. Natural skin care is rich in vitamins, minerals and proteins that soothe, nurture and improve your skins appearance. They do not contain harsh chemicals which only dry and irritate the skin. Natural skin care may cost a little more, but the results are worth it.

Get back to nature, use natural skin care for smoother, softer feeling skin.

Pregnancy Massage can be prenatal, postnatal or during the labour process, although many refer pregnancy massage to just prenatal and post-natal massage to mean massage that takes place a few days after delivery.

Having a massage during pregnancy differs from a normal massage as the masseuse performing the massage will need to have special knowledge of the body. Pregnant mothers are very sensitive and masseurs will need to be careful when giving massages as to not harm the baby in any way. The positioning of the mother and the intensity of the massage is very important.

Pregnancy massage is a wonderful way for mothers-to-be to relax, rejuvenate, and release some of the stress that their bodies are under for those nine months. While the massage obviously feels fantastic, there are many other benefits.

Moreover, the massage can ease your muscular aches and pains that may be very uncomfortable to say the least.

Another important objective is about the clothing. It is ones own wish regarding this matter, depending upon the ease. Every woman carrying multiple babies can be benefited from massage. Swedish massage is the most common form of relaxation massage offering many relaxing as well as healing properties to your body. Swedish massage combines the use of long strokes, kneading and friction techniques to manipulate the soft tissues of the body causing a variety of benefits to your body to help it to heal itself.
    Benefits of Aromatherapy Massage

An Aromatherapy massage can be an effective way of inducing relaxation, combating stress and ensuring continuation of good health. Massage is a ‘hands-on’ therapy and there are many variations, ranging from a gentle stoking and kneading of muscles to firmer, deeper, manual techniques. During the aromatherapy massage, much of the essential oils are inhaled and absorbed through the mouth and nose stimulating the production of relaxing, sedative euphoric or sedative neuro-chemicals, providing beneficial mental and emotional effects.

Therapeutic massage therapy is performed through various forms of manipulation and pressure applied to the soft tissues of the human body. Through massage, the muscles, tendons, connective tissue, ligaments, joints and lymphatic system are balanced and purged of toxins to provide many different benefits.

Foot massage benefits are best received when a professional massage therapist performs the massage. All too often, it’s not possible to get this kind of massage on a regular basis. There is another way to receive foot massage benefits without visiting a professional therapist.

Massage therapy is by far one of the oldest types of therapies used. Research has proven it was practiced in the Far and Middle East for at least 5000 years. Additional research also suggests that massage therapy has long been practiced in Egypt, China, Greece and Rome. It is known for its numerous benefits to the body as well as to the spirit.

Shiatsu massage is often referred to as acupressure, not to be confused with acupuncture therapy where needles are used. The idea behind this type of massage therapy is to realign muscles and unblock your inner energy source or “qi” for total well-being. Major benefits include:

    Reduce blood pressure

    Helps reduce mental anxiety

    Reduces body tension and stress

Abdominal massage is also beneficial in constipation. It stimulates the peristalsis of the small intestines, tones up the muscles of the abdomen walls and mechanically eliminates the contents of both large and small intestines.

Pregnancy massages aid in appeasing and resting the nervous system of the mother. This can help them sleep well at night which is very important for the health of both the mother and the baby. Some women experience mental anxiety and stress during the period of pregnancy which can be combated through the massage in pregnancy.

To get the full benefits of a deep tissue massage you need to drink plenty of water and relax completely. It is possible that if you do not drink enough water, you could have a reaction to the chemicals in the oil the massage therapist used to relax your muscles and eliminate the pain.

Muscles benefit also from the increased circulation; it helps to flush out any toxins that have settled into the muscle tissue and brings in fresh blood to supply nutrients to the muscles. Muscle tone is improved and mobility can be restored by massage. Muscle pain and soreness is relieved and strains and sprains heal faster with regular massage.

  • Health Benefits of Ginseng, Medicinal Properties of Ginseng

Posted on June 21st, 2009 joediv No comments

Ginseng is the most widely used herbal supplements on the market today, compared to all the other herbal supplements. In ancient times it is also known as “man root” since it takes the shape of a man.

Ginseng is grown in many parts of the world. The roots are the part of the plant used for all Ginseng products. Each variety has its own health benefits. Ginseng benefits are cumulative. Taking the herb for several months to a year is far more effective than short-term doses. Ginsengs are used in many Eastern formulas to complement other herbs.

The simplest way to take ginseng is to simply eat the leaves from the plant. Unfortunately, unless you’re used to it, ginseng has a distinctly odd taste, which makes the experience a little unpleasant. Also, fresh, unprepared leaves will not last very long, which is makes fresh ginseng impractical if you don’t live in a ginseng-producing country

Ginseng is from the araliaceae family. The most common is called Panax ginseng and is found in Asia. There is another from called Panax Quinquefolius L that is from the Americas. The biological / genes name of “Panax” means “all heal” in Greek because the Greeks were very aware of the incredible healing powers of ginseng. The benefits of ginseng are varied and incredible. Ginseng can improve vitality and memory, help with stress, boost the immune system, decrease blood sugar levels, help balance the metabolism, and help maintain and improve muscle tone.

Ginseng is native to the country of Siberia and other parts of Asia. This herb has been used for several centuries in traditional Chinese medicinal remedies. It has also been used by the Chinese as an energy tonic. Over in the west scientists have been researching the different ways that we can use ginseng in a way that would benefit us. From their research the believe that it could help to reduce stress and help us to think more clearly and be more alert.

The primary health benefit claimed for ginseng is that it reduces stress without otherwise harming the body – something like alcohol, only without the side effects. The few studies that have been done have shown a few other benefits: it was proven to slightly reduce the risk of flu in old people, for example. The most controversial claim (again, one that is made for many traditional medicines) is that ginseng helps to fight cancer – but while this has been shown to be true in animals, it does not seem to have any effect in humans.

The principle ingredients of American ginseng tea are panax quinquefolium, herbal lysimachiae and radix glycyrrhizae. American ginseng is sometimes referred to as quinquefolium. Ginseng tea is probably the most popular use for Wisconsin ginseng. American ginseng is sometimes referred to as quinquefolium. The tea can be made from the whole root, slices, ginseng tea cut or ginseng tea bags. This is about 5-8 slices, about 1 teaspoon of ginseng tea cut or powder, or one tea bag. Ginseng tea is very simple to prepare.

  • Find Out The Best Benefits Of Skin Care

Posted on April 5th, 2009 joediv No comments

Skin care is an exponentially growing field. People are now more educated about their skin health and they are always looking for skincare products that may benefit their skin. Different countries and different people have different ways to care for their skin.

In the ancient cultures like the Egyptian and Chinese cultures people, especially women, are very keen about getting the best skincare products. They were used to using natural products like plants, milk and honey.

Nowadays, the situation did not differ a lot; the skincare products manufacturers are now producing different products that include natural ingredients side by side with the chemical ones. There are now hundreds of skin care creams and lotions that contain milk, honey, yoghurt and cucumber.

In the late nineties, companies were producing skin care products but using only chemicals like ceriatenine and collagen. At this stage people were looking for products that would produce an instant effect and they were not concerned about the side effects of such products but after the year two thousand and with the concerns that grew about the usage of chemicals in skincare products, people tend to use skin care products that contains only natural oils and plant origin ingredients.

The newer products that contains these natural ingredients are easier to use and safer for everyone. These products are now sold over the counter without any concerns of the patients or the doctors because both are comfortable with the usage of natural products.

The skin care products are not only those creams and lotions used for skin lift and skin whitening but it also extends to ultra violet protection or what is known as sun blocks and sun screens.

After that the skincare products developed into other categories, in the past it was only related to the health but now it is also related to cosmetics. The most prominent example is the tanning lotion which is used to get the distinct skin color of the Latin Americans.

It was known that the skincare products are used by people in their forties or fifties to stretch their skin but now there are skin care products targeting girls in their twenties and thirties. The theory was only to treat the condition that already occurred but now the skin care products are used to prevent the occurrence of the condition.

The newer skincare products are now used to close the skin pores; this decreases the occurrence of skin inflammation. The astringent material in these products means the pores are closed so the skin is micro organism proof.

Everyday there are new skincare products entering the market and others are getting out so choose carefully what to use on your skin.
